In one of the last D&D campaigns I ever ran we had mid-level Barbarians
accidentally come across a large-size platoon of goblin infantry. All 1 HD
goblins with maces, but there were about 100 of them. I looked for every
possible angle -- including how many could attack them at once in hex. Two
barbarians literally killed every last one in melee combat. I could stop
them because I hadn't though to equipment them with missile weapons (it was
a long time ago!). It was a complete wipe-out way beyond the bounds of even
cartoonish fantasy.
