I never liked this idea myself.  Im one of those people who
gets a kick out of inventing their own world.  BIG planets
such as the kind they describe for Cidri have their own 
problems: if the radius were ten times the size of earth, 
you'd need a much lower density in order to maintain 1G at
the surface, then you'd have to worry about people jumping
up into the air and launching themselves into orbit, etc.

The world that I invented back in college was earth-sized,
but was a tad farther away from the sun so it was a little
colder.  It had 3 three moons, each of a different color 
and wizards could, with appropriate penalties and bonuses,
be "moon-wizards" in which their power would wax and wane
with the phase of a particular moon.

The setting was 'Post Apocalyptic' ... 5000 years after a
full-scale nuclear war.  Gave rise to some weird mutations
and allowed the characters to find some old earth ruins
once in awhile (one still had working electricity, which
was interesting).

One of the mythologies of the world I worked out was based
upon the apparent brightness of the other planets in the 
system (a-la Greek, Roman mythology).  Worked out to be 
kind of neat; even the math was fun to play around with.

If you're up for doing this kind of thing yourself, GURPS
Space has some great guidelines for world generation.
