Damage may be a bit much, unless the cost of the spell were, say, cut in
half.

But what about the shadow-wight's 'reversed' lighting structure, where
darkness is light, and light darkness?  The spell already lets the user
see through Shadow, like a shadow-wight.  Seems fitting.
