Fred Saberhagen - author of the wonderful "Swords" books (The First Book of
Swords, the Second Book of Swords, The Book of Lost Swords, etc.). Empire
of the East is in fact a prequil (sp?) to those books. 

I'd love to see a world book based on this series....
