Re: (TFT) I'm new and clueless.

From: "Marty Brown" <marty@mythicgames.com>

Hello all,

I am new to the list and new to the game. It's intriguing
that what has to be a fairly simple game (just guessing based
on the perceived size of the rulebooks) has such a loyal and
long-lasting following.

Welcome Marty,
It's suprising that you found your way to this newsgroup. TFT is one of the best kept secrets in all of fantasy role playing. That and it being dead (out of print) for over a decade make it something that people usually don't find unless they know what they are looking for. As to the long lasting following, yes, its true. In the early years of this news group there were many posts saying basically the same thing "tried other games, but always came back to TFT." It's simply the best game ever written. Simple and fast are two of the main reasons. You asked about the book loan out program. That is run by John Paul Bakshoian. He is subscribed to the group, but being very busy he only gets to check every few weeks or so. Usually he will make a post that the "mnoren librarium is open" to take new requests for the loan outs. You also mentioned that the current bids on e-bay for TFT stuff was running about $50 each. It's true that the origianl prints are becoming quite the collectors item. So far this has shown itself to be nothing but a sound investment, as the prices continue to creep up. Alos if you monitor e-bay for a while sometimes a rough/poor condition copy will pop up for $20. Also, once in a blue moon, someone will sell the items for $5. I can only assume they are the ones who don't know what they have. In the mean time, Till John Paul pops up again, you can find loads of TFT related material on the TFT web-ring. It is run by Brett Slocum (Thanks Brett!) and can be found at this web address.
