Re: (TFT) d20 System Homage to TFT?

My take on d20, even though I haven't seen the mechanics:

As mentioned, it will be the Windows of gaming systems, in no small
part because it works up to a point and people a) won't know about and
b) will have a hard time finding alternatives.

Frankly, I think that if d20 has a similarity in its streamlined
mechanics to TFT, that's a good thing, since I like role-playing, not
roll-playing. (See the archives for my more long-winded opinions on
that!)

No one gaming system handles every situation well, so we'll likely
see lots of little d20 variations floating around, both official and
unofficial. These will be accepted or rejected by groups of gamers just
like our variants are. I'd never play a game where I tracked hits on
each piece of armor, for example; others love ramping up that detail
to make the combat more realistic. Great - everyone should play the
way they want to.

It almost doesn't matter whether d20 sucks or not - the big guns are
pushing it as the One True System, so it's going to get used. (Just
like with Microsoft - the software isn't really stable, but it comes
on the PC, so waddayagonnado?) It will be bonus if it's actually a
decent system.

If it isn't then those people who know enough about this sort of thing
will use their favorite system, and probably modify d20 material for
it. I think that you'll see a lot of articles on modifying d20 stuff
for system X, though not as many as modifying system X stuff for d20.
