Michael,
   There is always a one ("1") on either side of the slash ("/").  Taking 
this as an assumed, one could shorten the notation by a single digit.  By 
using the slash as a reference and assuming a one ("1") on the blank side.
    Not much, but it is all I have noticed.  Below are two columns.  It may 
be a bit strange looking. The first is your samples.  The second, the 
abreviated version.
