I have the same problem when I use my ISP's web-based mail--which is all
I can use when travelling.  To get around it I use mail2web (www.mail2web.com) 
to read the mail in a non-garbled format.  I don't know if mail2web can 
access hotmail (as hotmail is an entirely web-based mailer) but it's worth 
a try.
