I was GM'ing in the LA Dragon Cons for a while.  So it was a bit ago.
however, when i first had thet test, it was very well known.  Did you get a
dragon?  or not.... open door? or not?  etc

in teh first year i ran it, like 1989??? something like that, it was the most
inexperienced newby party which won the event, because they were like... NO
WAY!!!!  and did not open it and get slaughtered.

the door was at the beginning of the dungeon, and the point of the quest was
to get something FROM the dragon, so the experinced guys just went for it, and
died.  14 hex dragon.

the smart way was to go around through the dungeon to the very SMALL door, and
sneak in.  then you supprised the dragon while he was fighting a different
party of adventurer NPC's  at the big door.

heheheheeh   you then  had a chance to win a fight. , or could run in and grab
stuff and run out, with this huge dragon chasing you around the lair, and you
running through the little door, and the dragon slamming into the wall, ....
dust flying.

but if you thought you were safe, and didnt keep running.... dragon breath
throught the little door into the hall.

very crafty i must say.


I had heard of other's using this device since, because i havnt been to the
cons in a few years, so... there it is, now you know the trick.
