Weather or not bart is still engaged by gob1 & gob3 at this point
doesn't matter. They can easily change facing next turn to re-engage. But
for Bart to be able to punch into the line like this (into not through) all
three goblins had to do zero damage, and Bart had to hit and wound.

David,
Thanks for mapping it out for me, that is just what I intended to do with counters and paper. And Now I see that Bart does not gain a substantive benefit from the free disengagement he gets by following a forced retreat, as he'll be re-engaged any moment. Moreover, i think the battle line example gives an ebb and flow of battle feel that might not be available in a strict "you can't move you are engaged" environment. I am officially changing my position. My games will now allow all BARTS to follow a retreat they force, even if existing engagements would otherwise prevent them from doing so. So the forced retreat rule represents an exception to the disengagement rule.

Admittedly it might not happen often, but I'll let my players know my new interpretation.
