Well, this isnt necessarily true. If you don't want to be noticed,
have to either a) blend in, or b) be unobservable. To blend in,
you have to avoid standing out - which means you dress like
other travellers and travel at the rate the other travellers use.
To be unobservable, you might be forced to avoid trails, etc.
