Hi all,
   My interpretation agrees with Peter's.  

   If you try to cross a pentagram with a magic item
the magic item warms up and resists crossing.  If you
try to force it across, small enchantments are destroyed
and major enchantments force a saving throw by the
pentagram.  If the pentagram saves, the item is destroyed
otherwise the pentagram is.
