Hey, if you have sulfur eating microrganisms that prevent you from making gunpowder, why not cheap iron/steel.  It's Cidri you know ;)  Leave realism is left to the real world! Three and eighteen are fine and playable and don't slow the game down.  But have fun however you want to play.
