Hi Greg,
  In my campaign, Illusions are limited to standard
summonings and magical obstacles so it does not
come up.  (A new type of Illusion called a 
Phantasmal can be of anything, but they have their 
its own problems...)

A Summon Octopi spell would be something like:

IQ 16
C Summon Octopi
Creates a one hex creature that...
Cost 4 plus 1 per turn.
