Re: (TFT) So what the heck is Cidri anyway?

Well it did say "working definition" about the Dyson sphere, rather than
"is". There were lots of working definitions for Earth cosmology before
one came up that could satisfy modern physics. Moreover, in a low tech
magic dominated world, people don't know modern physics, so they're in no
position to come up with better theories or to voice objections based on
modern sciences. From the perspective of everyone there except maybe the
Mnoren, physics and cosmology are mostly unknown, and might be quite
different.

The statements in ITL seem to have more certainty and authority. The
Mnoren "found" a really huge planet.

Accepting the FM Guild statement, it also has so much room that they can
list all those continents, yet there's still room for everyone else's
campaign to be inexplicably situated with relation to them.

Maybe Cidri is actually more than one planet, connected by gates, but no
one can tell (unless maybe they are geniuses, study astrology a lot and
take gates that pass between the worlds. But then, who could tell they
weren't just nuts?). That would allow GM's to have worlds "on Cidri" with
curvature effects or other deviations. Or for people to think they were
"on Cidri".

Or maybe cosmology in the TFT universe is not at all like modern science's
explanations. Cidri might be all on the back of a ridiculously large
cosmic Uncle Teeth.

Or, even if it were a Dyson sphere (which is a pretty silly thing), a
people with the ability to build one, could probably figure out a way to
engineer or fake day/night cycles and seasons.

I agree though that a magical/technological explanation feels more to my
tastes.

Cidri's so big we can assume it's effectively flat, has room for
everyone's campaign to be out of reach of everyone else's, and can include
whatever climates anyone invents for it. Those are the things one needs to
know, along with what Open Tunnel and Gates do, but not how they do what
they do, or what they are.
