Actually, though, even absent aerial photographs, one finds that significant
details CAN be reconstructed. For example, the exact coastline of Lake
Agassiz is well attested - the remants of prehistoric beaches have been
discovered, allowing for a good, factual idea of what it looked like, how
deep it was, etc. So it really wasn't intended to be a stupid question on my
part, and I have a feeling that better data is out there, I just need to
know where to find it; hence the question.

I have only looked at one of the links that Peter provided, and that was
somewhat helpful, showing a gross top level view of the earth 10,000 YBP. I
hope that some of the other links will provide more data.
