(TFT) Re: Alternative Wilderness Maps
If your players really are bopping off into a truly trackless wilderness
then the hex map method is OK. Though being the evil bastard that I am I
will point out that impassible rivers and gorges exist as well as
mountains that are just no fun to climb ;) Though once they players have
found a good path, they can always turn it into a toll road!
Another map used historically as well as nowadays is basically a roadmap
that shows the roads, paths and crossings as well as towns, cities and
villages. They were sometimes marked with travel times and other useful
information. This map is easy to make and it doesn't pin you down on the
in between areas so much.
You can also make the players have the appropriate skills required to
read the fancy maps ;)
