Jay, I've taken the fairly large liberty of adding you to the list
with
the location "Coastal California". No offense intended, and I hope I'm
not
infringing on anyone's privacy here. (Oops, Dick Cheney just called.
Jay, he
wants the S/N of your new computer.)
ROTFLMAO!
Thanks for the concern Mr. Barber. Really, Thanks.
I've had issues before (Phone Phreaking) and some of the research I do
puts me on watch lists. It's actually funny but it sure messes with my
messages.
Also put me down for Astoria OR.
Lewis and Clarke.
Neat place.
If I'z trying to be anoyomious I'd not post here...
LOL

Hi Kirk and welcome to the list,
First, as someone who's (too) nostalgic, it's great to have you
contribute the history of TFT and SJG. I enjoyed the "gang up on
Steve" story.
NICE for you to laugh at. I've been in groups like that. "MY goal is to
make JAY loose". That stinks to try and deal with. Kinda flatering
though...
Anyhoo...
Quote the thing.
It makes it fair use (apart from comments in the game telling players to
create thier own worlds).
Sue ME!
I ain't making nothing off this.
I just like this game and am willing to share my thoughts "free of charge"
hopeing this will keep the thing alive.

Years ago, between TFT being out of print and my own fat wad of house
rules,
I decided to write up a "TFT private edition" incorporating all my house
rules
and producing something I could print out and hand to new players. Later
I
decided to do a second "private edition," with even more
modifications to better
suit my own style and better fit my own game-world of Etan. This I've
renamed
"System Etan" and it will be finished Real Soon Now.
You can find both the old "TFT Private Edition" and parts of the new
"System
Etan" on my aol homepage: http://members.aol.com/erolb1/etan.html
I'm willing to contribute these to the effort, with the older "private
edition" being more useful if you want to duplicate the original.
It will still need
a going over, to remove any of my own house rules that the Group Mind
here
would want to reject, and also to rewrite any places where I copied
word-for-word from the Metagaming edition rather than recasting
things in my own words
(not too many of those, IIRC, but some). If people are interested,
I can send the
Word documents which would be easier for people to edit than the pdf
files on
my website.

Fantastic!
THANK YOU!
My thoughts....
Let's just write the thing.
We can worry about copyright if and when we have something NEW!
Till then we're talking pipe dreams.
I'll quote the b!^@&! till it's out in fair use.
I'd be happy to work for someone who...
Ya know what?
I'm shareing my thoughts publicly.
You all are welcome to them.
This dosen't mean I think myself better than y'all, I just think that if
anyone believes I think I'll make money off this then they better think
again.
I'd like to pass a better game than the one that was given to me.
Does this make sence?

Interesting find Jay. I remember working on my own TFT version of the
''metagame'' where you could attack the movement system and other rules.
The
language came out with things like "I attack to destroy the spell shield
spell.'', and "I defend the Movement system."

What about setting up a non-profit limited-liability corporation to do it?
Or is that a trick that only the corporatocracy is allowed to use?

From off-the-bat memory, the rule issues in TFT that seem to me could use
rewriting and optional rules include:
Rewrite/fix:
* Entering HTH rules (run-around, random unfairness, abuse, vagueness and
differences between Melee and AM).
* Pole weapon charge rules (probably just reduce damage bonus maybe to
+1d).
* Any agreed weak/unclear parts in magic system (better description of
magic item creation).
* Known errors, inconsistencies, and disorganization - add index.
Rules to include as optional rules:
* Add some way to avoid injury without wasting a turn (perhaps just
automatic to-hit penalty by from DX + talent).
* Survival check (not insta-death at ST 0).
* Split attributes.
* Alternate memory system.
* Experience system options.
* Optional rules from Interplay, etc.
* Other cool house rule ideas.

I am in almost complete agreement.
Entering HTH, Pole weaapon charges, and instadeath, are the only elements
of
game play that I find unsatisfying in TFT. (Of course, I still use them
all
as written anyway, except for instadeath, I let a physicker try to save
you
from death's door)
Ouside of most gameplay, the economic system could use a little work, and
the
description of magic item creation could be clearer, though the system
works
OK once you understand it.
Otherwise a little clarity, organization, and tweaking is it for me. Oh,
and
ditching the whole Mnoren thing, never used 'em, never cared for them, and
they would be HT's intellectual property anyway.
