(TFT) Stormbringer & Elric

DEFINITELY read "Elric of Melnibone" first. Moorcock wrote six books consecutively, then years later inserted a couple of others into the chronology.

Most of Moorcock's stories feature "The Eternal Champion" in one incarnation or another. You'll usually also find that most stories include versions of "The Eternal Sidekick" and "The Eternal Traveler", those these latter two are never specifically named as such.

At times, the hero will meet a different "aspect" of himself. They often team-up briefly to defeat an immediate threat. Sometimes this encounter shows up in each Champion's own novel, told from his particular perspective.

Three forces - and three pantheons of gods - are at work in Moorcock's Multiverse, and Champions tend to serve one of them (predominantly).

The Elric Saga is the darkest, most tragic, and <in my opinion> is the spiciest. He embodies the forces of Chaos.

Hawkmoon (and his Runestaff) epitomize Law.

Corum is seemingly an agent of "The Balance".

Many others one-shot stories or series intertwine with these storylines, starring heroes such as Ulrich, Von Beck, John Daker, Jerry Cornelius (he shows up often in Moorcock's books as "The Traveler", and his named may be altered subtly), Moonglum (Eternal Sidekick), etc...

Again, I recommend beginning with "Elric of Melnibone" to see how you like the taste. If it grabs you, the world really opens up to you - and it's a fun ride!

I could easily see David Grouchy as Elric, Joe Hartley as Dyvim Slorn, and
Jay as Yyrkoon.

I have to admit that other than a couple of short stories, I've never
read any Moorcock. I'm curious as to what it is about Dyvim Slorn that
get me cast in his role!

Where's the best place to start? The Wikipedia entries make his body of
work seem a bit daunting.
