I respectfully point out AW Page 26, on which the paragraph describing Weapon/Armor enchantment does *not* mention a requirement for a magician's laboratory. That requirement is made explicit for both Lesser and Greater magic items, following.

I grant that AW Pg. 8 does say a magician's lab is needed "...to make magical items of any variety." but this looks like does not apply to the Staff or Exploding Gem spells or Blast Trap. I read that as meaning that "in order to have the capability to make magic items of any variety, one must have a lab" (however, there are a few specific items for which one doesn't need a lab).

I have always played that Weapon/Armor Enchantment did not require a lab, nor do any of the other "odd" creation spells - only Greater and Lesser Magic Item Creation, and spells cast "from a book" (in which case a Wizard's Chest may serve as well).

I certainly note that the economics this way works out a lot better for the wizard.
