Re: (TFT) Interesting re: Thrown Pole Weapons
I recall that we played a thrown pole weapon did double damage but I can't
say how we came to that decision. We limited it to the smaller weapons like
javelins...maybe spears. It was our thinking that anything larger wouldn't
have the same effect as charging.
I guess the question is this: Is there any difference in momentum between a
solidly thrusted javelin/spear vs. one that is thrown?

Subject: (TFT) Interesting re: Thrown Pole Weapons
Melee, page 7: "2. A Disengaged figure may move up to half its MA and: b)
CHARGE AND ATTACK with any weapon except a Missile Weapon."
Melee, page 11: "A figure that charge attacks, Action b) for Disengaged
figures, with a pole weapon does double damage if the target is hit. The
figures last three hexes of movement must be in a straight line and
without a facing change or the double damage bonus does not apply."
Melee, page 12: "A thrown-weapon attack is treated exactly like a regular
attack, but there is a DX adjustment of b1 for every hex of distance to
the target. A target 3 hexes away is attacked at b3 DX."
Doesn't this mean that a figure armed with a spear could move three hexes
in a straight line, throw the spear, and do double damage with the pole
weapon attack? There is nothing in Melee that I've found to contradict
this interpretation, and it has historical precedent in that mounted
javeliners would use the momentum of their horses to improve their killing
power.
In Advanced Melee, this is not possible, since throwing a weapon is an
entirely seperate Option: "b. throw a weapon OR jab with a pole weapon."
You can not throw as part of a charge.
