I guess the question is this: Is there any difference in momentum between a 
solidly thrusted javelin/spear vs. one that is thrown?

since momentum is Mass times Velocity, and a man plus spear has a dramatically bigger mass (say 200 lbs vs 1 lb) I think a charge has a kot more momentum than a throw, unless the thrown spear moves 200 times faster than the thrust spear.
