I'm still not sure about this.
Your example only comes up 1 in 7776 times (for the mace, that is), and it is 2 vs. 8 for cloth, not 0 vs.8. It is 0 vs. 6 for chain, though.

So, even taking into account double and triple damage, mace still seems to be the better choice, unless you're really relying on that minimum for double or triple damage.

What could I be missing here?
