If the debate is between realism and playability, I'll choose playability every time.  But, for those of you who know me, and that's not many of you, this probably seems contratrary to what you've seen me argue in game.  This is because I love to put as much effort into making the setting and extraneous details of the game as realistic as I can.  To me, this is just good story telling.  

But, I'll admit, this desire to make the game seem real or at least full of detail often exposes weaknesses in the system..  And, by exposing ambiguities in the system, we open up the need for house rulings to resolve the ambiguity.  

So, I'm in support of a centralized collection of house rules.  And, I'm in the process of trying to gather together my own so I could add them.  But, in my opinion, house rulings without details on the circumstances that gave rise to their creation would make even my own house rules seem capricious.  So, I'm trying to remember the reasons and include the rationalle in footnotes.  

In the end, for me it's all about not "unbalancing" the game.  Sure I want things to be more realistic, but adding a new talent, let's say "quickdraw", may make perfect sense when it comes to realism, but it totally changes the balance of encounters.

I'm in the same boat as you - but what I want is more of the same.  I'm 
quite satisfied with the rules "as is", my only wish is to have a 
completely codified and unified set of rules so that I can quit flipping 
between 4 or 5 different books.
