This, of course, is the crux of the biscuit: realism vs. abstraction.
We've covered it many times on the list, and while I am a firm
abstractionist (in that I think the rules are an excellent balance
of realism vs. playability), I applaud the efforts of Jay and others
to try and come up with the data to model a more realistic ruleset.
I probably wouldn't play a game that worked to that level of realism,
since I believe the rules would be too complex for me, but that's the
beauty of a wide range of games and rules. There's something for
everyone.
