Note is says picking up a dropped weapon.  It does not say pick up and ready dropped weapon.  The further discussion of picking stuff up makes clear it is not readied until the start of the next turn, which difference would only seem to matter in this precise circumstance, or perhaps in some minutia of the engagement rules (though i am not certain)
