Who told you that this system was fixed to 3d6?
BAD info IMO.
Better to say it's fixed to a bell curve.
An honest d20 is 5% per face.
There is only one result that gets you 3 on three die six.
Not trying to "lecture" but rather mention that it can be more of an x-d6
system rather than a 3d6 ceiling.

All very true, but that 3-die roll is by far the most common one, so I don't feel too bad about putting it that way, especially to a beginner. Besides, when I wrote that answer, all I had was the phrase "who tft", which doesn't really bolster confidence in the math skills of its author - although now I know that it was a fluke and not representative :)
