How about this form of balance: Consider "accidental" disbelief by someone
on the home team (it's kinda related to how animals and such can disbelieve
in AW). For example, if PCs know that their wizard doesn't have the
*summon* myrmidon spell, and suddenly one appears next to them, hacking
away at the baddies, what's to stop PCs from accidentally disbelieving
since they know it's an illusion?

"Wow, that fake myrmidon (or whatever) is kicking some serious butt for us!
Way to go, Wiz!"

*poof* Myrmidon disappears...
