Re: (TFT) the cost of improved talents
Good point Rick, though it depends on what the improved talents do. (Also a point of detail: GURPS Physical skills end up costing 8 points per level at higher levels, and in the first three editions, attributes 10-13 cost 10 points at creation.)
In the house rules we were using in Thail, having the improved melee weapon talents would be worth more than two attributes, I'd say, because it gave great advantages that were not available anywhere else.
Even the rule someone just posted where Sword II would get you +1 attack/defense/damage would be worth at least an attribute, maybe 2 (also depending on the defense house rule used) because the advanced talent gives you something you can't get any other way (even if it were just the +1 damage because it could be stacked with other damage effects which have limits, meaning it could be the best choice for many characters).

In GURPS it takes ~20 character points to raise an
attribute or 1 to 4 points to raise a talent. I
don't think I would EVER improve a talent if it
cost a full attribute, to say nothing about 2 or
3 times an attribute.
If one attribute bought 5 or 6 talent points, I
would consider it. (Higher levels of talents
might take 2 or 3 talent points.)
Warm regards, Rick
