Melee tournament Champion of Champions ROUND 3

We are getting to the sharp end of this competition. We started with 108 
fighters. We are down to the TOP 25. Hero 077 has finished in first 
position in both of the first two rounds. His deadly morningstar and his 
unarmored quickness spell TROUBLE and that starts with T and that rhymes 
with D and that starts DEAD which is what about 70% of his opponents 
have been!

ROUND 3. READY....FIGHT!

But is a NEW LEADER! Hero 069 (broadsword + small shield) has usurped 
first place from Hero 077 (morningstar + small shield). And Hero 065 
(spear) has jumped all the way from 20th to 3d place! What in the heck 
is happening Gary?? 

Well, it seems that as the competition gets tougher and tougher, the 
fighting is becoming more and more about who is effective at taking out 
the ST11, ST12, and ST13 fighters. It takes someone who can strike 
quickly and still have a good chance of flooring his opponent. A Hero 
like 084 (morningstar + plate + large shield, adjDX 4), just doesn't 
stand a chance! And neither does a weakling like Hero 046 (cutlass + 
leather + large shield) -- he's just too puny and weak to wreck the 
necessary carnage at this level. Furthermore, armour all of all sorts is 
being selected out. 

Let's bring up the graphs, where we are seeing an increasing 
concentration of the best fighters in the midrange ST and almost 
exclusively now with minimal armor. It's loin cloths and small shields 
for the overwhelming majority -- the top fighters for the most part have 
nothing to slow them down.These battles are short and bloody.

We are down to our Top 10 best Heroes. This is the semi-final. 1000 
battles for each pair. Only FIVE will go through to the Final. Gary?

Well, when I look at the top 3 from Round 3, I see 3 true classic 
fighting forms. The Myrmidon, the Morningstar guy, and the Spearman. And 
these 3 are ahead of the rest of the field by some way. I really see no 
way around these three advancing to the Final.

JUST WHAT WERE YOU SAYING GARY???

If I had not seen this with my own eyes I would never believe it. Hero 
077 -- who has been at or near enough at -- the top of this competition 
the whole time has fallen to 8th. Hero 077 IS NOT IN THE FINALS! He won 
a mere 4260 of his 9000 battles. And look who is in 2nd?! It is MACE 
MAN, Hero 057. In fact, we have none of the ST13 Heroes are in the 
final. The Championship is honing in on what seems to be the ultimate 
arena form, ST11 DX13.

And I always thought the mace was just not as good a weapon as the 
shortsword. Wrong again.

Finally, working his way to first place.. knock me over with an 
impaling, it's Spearman, Hero 065. He is just improving and improving 
with every round. It's like he was designed to take out these fast 
lightly armored fighters. 

We are set for one heck of a final, eh Gary?

Well, if you like weapons that require ST 11, and you don't like armor, 
then we sure are!
