My district has no Social Studies openings; this town is sports crazy and the 
coaches grab all the few spots. Now if I had a Math or Science or Special Ed 
degree and/or could speak Spanish this would be a different story... It 
doesn't help that I live in Las Vegas which is a town that one can make a 
good living either working in a casino or building one, so education is 
unimportant in the peoples' eyes. We almost lead the nation in dropouts. My 
history professor narrated a History Channel show on Vegas and called it the 
last Detroit for this reason (unskilled labor paying well)...
