(TFT) Steel Ships and stupid men

Rick stated,

<<<No I don't use strict hexes in my game, for 'interesting' battles
I sometimes set up a hex grid but for most battles I simply tell my players
what is going on, and play it verbally.

For the pirate ships, I was thinking of using a system like
Wooden Ships and Iron Men from AH, but rather than fighting out the
battles using those rules, use them as a guideline and wing it from
there.>>>>

This remind me of an incident in high school in the 70s. We used to play
Fletcher Pratt's rules for Naval Warfare on the typical square tiled floor
you find in a lot of older high schools (probably containing asbestos).
Much like most miniature systems, you used a tape measure to determine where
shots fell. In this game you spaced shots in order to have a better chance
to hit a target. There were two arrogant better than though brothers that
played against us. I believe it was the Bismarck/Hood scenario. They had
the Bismarck and Prinz Eugen and of course our group had the Hood
Battlegroup. In less than a half an hour, we wiped the two brothers. It
seems as though when we fired our guns we hit them 3/4 of the time. Boy!
were we lucky or not?

Yours in Cidri,
Justin
