Good examples of bad GM'ing of fumbles, Ed. Maybe they're something that 
many GM's will do badly. Ideally, each spell could specify the appropriate 
sorts of effects for failures, though of course that's a lot of work, and 
still too much to ask for some GM's who won't remember or look up such 
rules during play.

I like GURPS and GURPS Magic - style fumbles, but I wouldn't enjoy playing 
either with a GM who wasn't very good and handling them.
