I agree with you on this. At the school I teach at I had a group of 7th
graders playing Advanced Heroquest and Warhammer Quest and there was no way
I was going to let them ruin my miniatures. Also the stuff you have to
carry becomes exceedingly lighter. When I played TFT, the only pieces I
ever used for the game were either the counters supplied for the game,
Cardboard Heroes, or all those extra blank chits that I saved from SPI and
AvalonHill games with a semi-circle inked on one-side of the chit to show
you where the front of the character was.
