If a 1-point ST Battery costs $1000, then a 1-point self-powered ST battery would cost ten times as much, or $10,000. That makes a 10-point self-powered battery ten times /that/, or $100,000, not $500,000. Does that sound right?
On the surface, yes, but the strength battery is a special case. It takes 5 points of strength to charge one point in a strength battery. So to make one 1pt battery self powered the cost would be x50, not just times ten. That is 50,000 for 1pt sp batt. A lot of cash. If one was ever made, I imagine the wizard could cast 1d lightning every turn, and all day. As a GM I have never seen one of these, and I doubt a player would spend that much when there are so many other items for less that do more. I guess if someone did try I would send them on a quest to get the "magic book" required to make a self powered gem. That should slow them down.
