From: Mark Tapley <mtapley@swri.edu> I read back through part of the archives. Good stuff in there about castles, my apologies for not doing my homework before posting.
Mark,The subjects of castles in a magical world has come up three or four times. I always ment to comment on it. Tell me what you think. The premise, as I remember, is that castles are practially useless as defencive postions in a world of teleport, gate, and telepathy. My solution is a very minor extension of an existing spell. The pentagram. The wording of the pentagram spells says 'no spell may cross it'. It also says it protects a mega hex. The house rull I use, is that no matter what size the pentagram is, it still protects the whole mega hex. You only need to draw it full sized if you want to summon a creature inside the pentagram. Fixing a small permenant pentigram somewhere on every single floor of a mega hex tower would protect the whole tower. Like wise for a gate, keep, or even walls. This puts castles back on a fair footing with magic.
