Two 4-foot diameter gates, one about 1 ft. below the other, both
horizontal, and a set of about 50 wooden balls, each about 1 inch in
diameter. The gates have rules such that the only thing that they transfer
is the wooden balls, and then only from the upper surface of the bottom
gate to the lower surface of the top gate.

Hang the thing up near the ceiling, toss in the wooden balls. Round and
round they go, faster and faster - until they start entraining air. Pretty
soon there's a nice whooshy jet of air passing out the lower end of the
assembly, and the balls have reached terminal velocity.

In modern days, we'd call this a "Ceiling Fan".

Warning: do not operate in vacuum. Relativistic effects will become
dangerous after a few months....
