Did not mean to imply otherwise - simply wanted to note the fact that
efficiency of energy transfer was probably a significant factor. The
Antiquity article I mentioned supports this (I can provide some particulars
later) and so does Hardy's "Longbow". Don't know what my other references
say, though.
