The winner in this year's race ran 211 miles over 3 days.  I believe the LotR 
'Big Run' was also three days long.

Now granted that's 211 miles without weapons or provisions, but still.

And on the subject of The Big Run, yes Gimli got all tuckered out first. 
However he made the run wearing *chainmail*, unlike those two wimp friends of his.
