I realize I am late to the party, and that certain rules flaws have already been pointed out, but since I would not bother to consult the rules in-game for this one, and am not willing to do so now either, I'll just give my GM fiat ruling, and consult the books between games if needed.

NO.  It doesn't work, because it is too weaselly, and I don't allow weaselly stuff in my game.  

So far that has always been sufficient explanation for my players.  To the extent that it ever is not, they are free to play elsewhere.
