Charles,
      I,ve mostly been thinking swords - and to a lesser extent wooden shafted weapons.  But I am inclined to agree that a mace cast out of solid iron (even lousy iron) would be hard to break on another guys helm.  I think such a weapon deserves a 2 die confirmation roll for breakage if it is made at all well, and 1 die even if it is junk.
