I found out how much I hated extra dice
rolls when I seriously tried GURPS Fantasy.
The extra active defense rolls, which seemed
such a good idea in theory, drove me and my
players around the bend.
Another thing, Conan is not going to
pass out one time in 6. If you were were
adding a die roll for the emotional reaction
to damage, I think it should be more personality
based.
One thought, give your players more
power. When I started allowing a roll for
badly wounded players to stay conscious, I said
that 'once in a while' (i.e. when it is
dramatically interesting) the player could have
their character automatically make this roll &
stay conscious no matter how far below 0 ST
they were.
It has worked out well.
