Yes, they can, along with silver, lead etc.

And to change the subject somewhat...

In Unicorn Gold, I enjoyed the Seekers and the more elaborate wizards on the 
encounter table

However, I really enjoyed Silver Dragon, particulary the random encounters 
with "tribal teenagers" and their knife fighting to first cut.  Also, the 
hunters / woodsmen betting on bow marksmanship etc.

It was very different from the hack/slash style we played otherwise.
