I lived on the island from birth (1965) through 1993 when I moved to
NJ.
(technically I lived in eastern Queens, so geographically LI, but
municipally
NYC).
I shopped at W2, and at the Compleat Strategist, but didn't game at
either, so
I am afraid I don't recognize the individuals you mention, i just
fondly
recall shopping there.
I know the strategist still exists in manhattan, though all the other
branches
are gone I believe, do you know if Waterloo II still exists. I may
need to
look into both of them again.

I gamed
with the SGLI at first at Waterloo II (RPG games -- usually C+S run by
Rusty,
the BIG red haired guy that ran the counter) and later we rented the
top
floor of a bar in Bethpage and finally at Ron Boone's house in
Bethpage. I
also
played Napoleonics with Scott at Waterloo in Stony Brook and later at
his
condo
in Mineola after they closed the Stony Brook store. The SGLI
fragmented into
boardgaming at Ron's house, historical miniatures at Scott's, and RPG
gaming
on
the weekends wherever.... I moved to 'Vegas; Scott to Gilbert,AZ and it
seemed a LOT of other people left the island...:-(
