Re: (TFT) TFT Healing
Thanks for the welcome,
I wonder if it is advisable to create our own terms to define what gaming style we enjoy. I wonder if it's truly relevant when we are given enough facts about a specific senario?
For example, my group preferrs to ditch the rules when it comes to calculating DX minus for range with missle weapons. The problem is that our play area is often limited by the number of beer bottles, dice surfaces etc., and the two megahex per (-1) seems too liberal. Instead, we count the first megahex free, and adjust for -1 for every three hexes crossed by the straight line path beyond that.
The effect of this is to speed up play by positioning the encounters closer together to start, and it also allows people to run away (maybe to warn others). The only contradiction I've found in the rules as a result of this in my own play is the somewhat obscure rules for spell and missle weapon max range. If I remember correctly (I don't have the books at work), the max range is a measure of strength to megahexes. With the new formula, it can mean that you're at a -8 before your max range for larger characters, which seems unfair to someone with missile weapons. But, again, since our play area tends to be small, this hardly ever comes up. In fact, the only times anyone cares is when someone flees with a potentially good magic item on them, or when that person might alert others to their presence. I should probably also mention that we play a max DX minus of 8 (complete darkness/invisibility). Not everyone adheres to that rule. In fact, some of our group will go below -8 in cases when the figure defends or dodges and four dice or more are about to be rolled. Personally, I think that any creature that defends when they are invisible is a total chicken-&@!^. (I hope no one is offended, heh).
So, above is an example of some of our rulings and part of the reason why. I don't have all the reasons, but that's most of it. Blast away. I have a thick skin.
Good Fortune,
Rick

No reason to feel horrible ... we have these kinds of discussions
all the time. btw ... I dont think I've added my voice to cacophony
yet - Welcome to the List! :)

Well, this was kind of my point - you have to talk about things
like healing in the context of the experience the GM and the
players want to create and this should be stated so that we
be on the same page when we're having a discussion.
