Re: (TFT) Rules for armor penalties
I think there are quite a few people in the SCA who wear clothing made of leather as if it was "leather armor". Effective leather "armor" is hardened like a turtle shell in places. It's thick and can be quite heavy. I've always thought that Leather armor would be my own personal choice for armor if I was transported into midevil times. Beyond that, I could see the value of a shirt of rings to essentially preserve the leather against slashing blows, and a nice shield to block obvious arrow barrages. But wearing full chain or plate would out of the question for me. I'm not a hero, and I'm sure i'd be clutching my chest and dying of exhaustion after the first five minutes of battle.
Rick, I'm not meaning to slam the SCA with this comment. I have quite a few friends in the SCA. I just want to differentiate between the soft crushed leather tunic and the hardened leather breastplate.
Good Fortune,
Rick Walters... herafter "Richard" to quel confusion.

I've had a number of people in the SCA say that they can run around all day in
Leather armor and it does not slow them down at all OR make them more clumsy.
