I'z thinking more like this...

At sea level in optimal conditions I can see about 2 1/2 miles. (like triangles method, center of earth)

Here's the rest of my back of the envelope attempts...

20ft above; I can see 6 miles

300ft; 23miles

3500ft; = 80miles

16,000ft; = 330miles

more in a bit...
