Re: Re: (TFT) Interesting re: Thrown Pole Weapons

I agree that technique is very important but that's abstracted, I guess, by
the DX roll. I don't think the damage charts are accurate either. I don't
think there should be much difference based on weapon type,C it is just a
way of allowing more damage for higher strength. Should a cultass do more
damage than a short sword like a Roman Gladius or less than a broadsword? I
played a game that didn't really differentiate too much on weapon damage. It
was based on how good your to hit roll was. If it was very good you did more
damage, marginally good then you did marginal damage, all without reference
to your weapon type. The base damage for any weapon was 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4.
Small weapons received a small (-1/-2)C negative damage bonus and large
weapons received a small positive damage bonus (+1/+2, maybe +3) to the base
damage. It was pitched asC a beginner's game but the damage system actually
   made sense to me.C
For TFT you could do something similar. You could have threeC groups of
weapons (small, medium and large) with each group having a base damage like
1d6 forC small, 2d6 for medium and 3d6 for large. You wouldC then give a
strength and/or skill bonus (+/-) on damage. I think this makes a lot more
   sense.

TFT and damage values have always been sketchy when you try to compare the

results would likely skew the entire damage chart.
If anyone is interested in doing such tests, remember that it's not only
velocity and mass, but also surface area of the striking edge, type/depth
of wound, and location of the wound that really determines the damage.
Moreover, the razor sharp katana shouldn't be used as a chopping blade. In
the hands of a master, the katana will cut through the spine and even
bone. It's all in the slicing motion. And well placed bloodgrooves on some
longswords make them much more damaging when used properly as well. So,
there should be some sort of modifier for skill if we're being true to the
     weapon's damage potential.
