Re: Steve Jackson - major change to TFT.

We probably need to wait and see how the Talents system changes (if at all) before we worry about that.  Besides, it's not like those kinds of characters weren't made in the past...

Agreed but I can already see St 11 Dx 19 IQ 10 longbow with fine plate shooting 2x per turn with missile weapons talent.

I don't disagree with that point -- I think I would have capped additional Attribute points at 10 or 12; but I'm willing to play it as written for a while before I get all excited about making a change.

Since we only got a couple of disconnected parts of the rules, I'm willing to wait and see how it actually is set up before I go all "doom and gloom" and claim it's "ruined" or anything.  In my experience (over the past 40+ years) of Steve Jackson's designs, he interweaves his designs quite effectively, so picking on these two little glimpses (XP and Staffs -- which are the only mention so far of "mana" and solely in connection with the staff) with absolutely no context, and claiming the game is destroyed is a bit hyperbolic, frankly.  I'll see what I think when I have the whole thing in my hands.

I think it should be at bare minimum 45 AP.  At 40 there is going to be a lot of min/max players.

At first viewing, I like the proposed changes. They make sense to me.
I already had house rules for using XP to buy Talents and Spells without increasing IQ.
They were not used much as most players prefered to increase stats.

Using a staff as a ST battery is a very useful enhancement and should encourage Wizards to take the Staff spell. :)

I am less sure about the 40 AP limit for characters. The only time we had a PC with 40+ AP the player was a pain in the arse so I am biased!

Have fun and play nice,

Chris Nicole

Hi all,

There is an important post about how experience works in the new TFT.  Attribute bloat has been fixed with a sledge hammer.

  Curious about your thoughts.

  Warm regards, rick.
