It is not quite that simple.
I’ve seen several games where the Ring is moved from Rohan to Minas Tirith with an army escort. But the Ringbearer has to leave armies behind, because there is no way those armies will get into Mordor.
For that matter, if an army is defeated in army combat, all characters escorted by the army are automatically captured. So sticking Frodo with a 5-7 cavalry unit is not without risk. Warm regards, Rick.

And it's pretty much completely against the spirit of the story.

For that to work, the unit had to be mobilized.
That does not usually help until the mid to late game.
